For some reason, I guess to the the climate and sales in the music indutry an artist won't release a song for each video. Thankfully people can come up with his or her very own vision of what the song would have been trasnlated to in a visual.
Derick G is the personal Cash Money videoagrapher and he put together his own vision of what he would see Drake's "Light Up" should look like. G uses females as stand-ins for Drake, Jay-Z & the incarcerated Lil Wayne
yonie.ethiopian.love Provides an equallly dope underaurated portatly of an artist video. They take "Devil in a New Dress" from Kanye West's hit album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and add life to one of the dopest tracks on the album.
Well once again the good folks at OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) contiune to push the limits with some crazy ass dope dope music. Memebers Earl, Tyler, & Hodgy come with an alternative Christmas inline with their alternative rap style: "Fuck This Christmas." So happy holidays from the staff of Thats's Dope Jon! Odd Future: Fuck This Christmas by Jonnie Dope
Day Day is a dude outta Baltimore that is pretty dope and seems to be making waves using his own lane (to borrow from the previous post). He flips Lil Wayne's "Single" to give you "Young Nino". Dope shit nonetheless.
Edit: And Following the Travis Porter/Rosce Dash route here is Day Day & King Midas with "Money"
Rap music has always been know pushing lines, breaking boundaries, going against the status quo, and creating new lanes to expanded the culture. Rap not just about the music any more it embodies a whole culture and can even be looked at as being what mainstream culture is. People that know me personally know I really take rap very seriously, and will debate the issue almost to the point where you have to add rap to list that includes: politics and religion. So to get to my point I digress here. If the culture is going to continue to expand and create new lanes it needs to stay fresh. At one point all you had was hardcore gangsta rap or a more conscious side political laden side. The tides turned and you added a more flashy side to that, but you still had the diverse and respective styles. Now we have some to a time in the era of the Drake’s, a rapper who not only raps but also sings equally as well about the emotions that he seems to be wearing on his sleeve. Good for the culture. We are at the time of the Wiz Khalifa’s & Curren$y’s, rappers that just want to count show money and smoke weed and wear nice cool streetwear brands and let that serve as their grounds and respective niches. Good for the culture. The last trend I see that is good for the culture and for the sake of argument, would be the Travis Porter’s and Roscoe Dash’s. Travis Porter is a group of and Dash is a solo artist who was at one time a Porter collaborator. The style they have is a upbeat I wanna party “sing-songy” for the lack of a better term, that is best when played loud and when you are in the club and wan to nod your head. Good for the culture. I bring up these three lanes taken for a reason. The change was good all of the above bought something fresh to the rap game outside of the guns, dope packs, and expensive Italian labels—aye there’s the rub. I may have spent close to my whole evening listening to new music. But the music didn’t sound very new or fresh to me. It seemed like a lot of artist are following the Drake, Wiz, & Travis Porter models in some form or another, and that’s not good for the culture. Since the lines are so blurred of what is rap and what is not and what is not original, new lanes have to be made like Drake and the above did.
Take Earl Sweatshirt’s “Earl” for example. This kid is fucking nuts, nuts meaning I think the kid might be crazy but he can truly rap. His subject matter is different but good. Good for the culture. Peep Below:
And that is the main reason I fucks with artist like Earl and Drake and Wiz. They are finding ways to be true the expanding culture by expanding it and creating new lanes. Of course there may have been dudes that were always heart broken and had talented both singing and rapping before Drake. And yes there were people that smoked copious amounts of weed and wore high-end streetwear labels before Wiz. The problem I see is that everyone feels that needs to be the new models for what everything should sound like as oppse to trying to find those new lanes. Just a rant. This was all written on the whim in almost a stream of counsioness but don't even worry about, thats Dope
Hear of some Dope Shit from the other artist mentioned and you may also notice some trends I'm seeing. ANd no Drake here because everyone and their mother knows that guy by now Travis Porter "Go Shorty"
Here is a dope remix of one Rihanna's 'Whats My Name" done by the good folks over Federation Sound featuring Vybz Kartel and produced by Rickey Blaze & Max Glazer. The song was hot before but this really gives it more of an island reggae feel, that lacked with the orignial featuring Drake. A great to close out the year with a remix of one of the years hottest songs. Check out the song below. Rihanna-Whats My Name Federation Remix Feat: Vybz Kartel by Jonnie Dope
Weezy is back in his elememet, after his performace of his new smash "6'7'" sans Cory Gunz on Saturday Night Live this past saturday. Weezy even blogged about the performance saying: Hello World & Fellow Martians! I hope you enjoyed my Saturday Night Live performance. I can’t describe what it felt like being back in my element. I wanted to share some behind the scenes photos from my Rolling Stone photo shoot. The shoot was in Miami two weeks ago and just being able to do this type of stuff again is therapeutic. Be sure to pick up the issue when it hits stands. Thank you to the people at Rolling Stone for the opportunity.
PS. Thank you for making 6 foot 7 foot #1 on itunes, you will continue to be #1 in my heart.
The explanation found on the page is so much Doper than what I could provided: Tyrone's Chicken is a tribute to Breezy's home town of Baltimore, MD. Paying homage to the local food carry-outs that most Baltimorean's were raised on Breezy explains that he was raised on these things but does not want to be confined to them. He explains that there is more to life then just Baltimore.
Show Tufli is a dope rapper from Harlem making some serious waves. Backed by a strong team going back to the roots of grassroots marketing in the digtial era, but bring the feel of hip-hop that has been missinig since the analog era. Here is Tufli's lastest #TufliTuesday offering "Deep" Show Tufli - Deep by Jonnie Dope

So My cousin got married today, shoutout to to Mr. & Mrs. Harris. But I had a few talked with cousins and other family about bigger plans in life. Right now I am at an all time high. Yet still I have to go back to the basics to get "Closer to my Dreams." I came across this video and the "Dope" in the title is just icing on the cake as they say. Nonetheless. We. Gon. Make. It.
put me on to. He has a nice flow and a vibe you can just nod your head to. I'm tired of hearing about old niggas that had it, and its good to see the new generation of rappers on the come up. I'm rooting for dude. Here is "Give it to Me" a hot song for the summer. Check out his blog also
Nike Air Force 1's have been and may always be a summer staple in the footwear department. While I often prefer the clean look of the classic low cut AF1's the Dopeness of these Hi Top joints can not be denied. They will be aliviasble online and at Urban retail accounts in July.
Drake's entire album "Thank Me Later" was leaked some time Tuesday night. But this gem with Young Jeezy was leaked a few weeks back and I think really sets the tone for the ablbum. June 15th "Thank Me Later" is in stores & iTunes but in the mean time enjoy Dreake & Young Jeezy's "Unforgivable." The track was produced by frequewnt Drake collabortors Boi-1da & Noah “40″ Shebib, and it pays homage to late Aaliyah by using the sample for "At Your Best" Drake - Unforgettable (Feat. Young Jeezy) CDQ by Jonnie Dope
HBO's "How to Make it in America" is pretty weak, Luis Guzman is worth the price of admission. But it always start off good with Aloe Blacc's "I Need A Dollar" as the show's theme song, here is the visual almost better than the show.
Here is the Superbowl Edition of MF'Ntertainments New Orleans and overall banger: ""Heart of the city (WHO DAT)"" with footage of Super bowl Highlights. And I'm nominating X-Man's line of "Eat some nachos and drink some beer/Cause Playa its notcha day in here." Because its a dope line and thats what he and I did when we lost our jobs in Atlanta. LOL but look at us now.
This video for Wale's "My Sweetie" is a Dope, I think its a better video & song than his second single/video "Pretty Girls" nonetheless good song and video. The video was directed by DC's own Tabi Bonney.
I gave up the BBM game and went to the iPhone before they had these so called Barcodes. But I happen to come across this song while snowed in, and I ain't gonna front its a head rocker. Its "B.B.M. (Lemme Scar Ur Barcode)" by a dude by the name of Losta outta Westbury, NY. Check out the song below.
Jeff & Eric Rosenthal Are "Its The Real" two brothers from the mean streets of New York's Upper East Side who do A "Hip-Hop" sketch show, this is there first foray into rapping about the now Blackballed Kanye West (Shout out to Cousin Ryan, we were just talking about this)
Not a huge fan of Kid Cudi just off the strength that I never heard much of him outside of his "Day & Night" joint. But this joint "Cudderisback" might make look back at his work.
As my good friend Brian Durel would say: "Its a pretty song" but it also has a vibe that one could bounce to in the club, or just rock in the ear phones. Here is Mike Posner's "You Don't Have to Leave"
